Time and time again. People keep forgetting that the solution to universal healthcare is not the insuring everyone. There are plenty of countries out there that have higher, uninsured rates than the USA and their overall health scores (birth mortality rates, healthcare burden on GDP, etc...) are better than the USA. And the flipside are the countries with 100% insurance that have worse overall health than the USA. What really keeps a country healthy is the rich-poor gap. The larger the gap, the worse the health.
It's time people stopped asking the governement to keep them healthy and for us to take responsibility for our own health. You know you shouldn't eat that burger. You know you shouldn't spend that money on beer and cigarettes when you could buy produce for a week. You know you should have gone for a jog instead of watched that hour of reality TV. When will we stop blaming others for our unhealthy habits? When did we become a society that asks our government to insure us. Why would you want the goverment be our insurance agency? Health Insurance is a privilege. Not a right.
