Austin City Limits Music Festival- Day 2
So I woke up around 11AM on Saturday. I had enough time to drive around West Austin and look at some of the neighborhoods. Far West Austin has some pretty cool hill and huge-ass houses. It felt like California in a way. Or Reno with the huge mansions in the hills. But the houses were definitely Texan. They were big and used a lot of limestone. They love that shit here. Anyway, I met up with my friend at Rudy's for BBQ and it was pretty good. The brisket was moist and melted in my mouth. The sausage was awesome and the turkey was not dry. After that, my friend invited me to his friend's place to check out the UT game. I honestly, didn't really care for the Longhorns because I think of them as competitors since I'm from another large public school. I must say though, the students and atmosphere of UT is pretty cool. I dig them over Michigan anyday. So I watched a little of that game. I finally left around 4:30 and made my way back to Downtown to catch the shuttle again. Oh, by the way, the cost of parking at City Hall to catch the shuttle on Friday was $4. That's right $4. It was awesome. Clean covered secured parking. And a short walk to the Shuttle stop. I'm surprised nobody else parked there. But the thing was everyone walked to the Festival. There were more people walking the 2 mile trek from Downtown than those taking the shuttle. These people are fucking insane. They don't even break a sweat. I sweat just remembering the weekend. I don't know how they get used to it. This time, catching the shuttle at 5:30 PM was smooth as silk. Got on right away. Got to the festival right on time and I was able to make my way to the stage with Damien Rice. I'm dressed in a cool cotton polo and shorts and sandals. I didn't bring the chair but I brought my Camelback and filled it with ice. Supposedly you're not supposed to fill the bag with any water. But the "security" volunteer guy just whisked me in. So now I know you can pretty much smuggle anything in. And people did. Which is why I must have felt so good that day. The air was so thick with 2nd-hand smoke, I thought I died and went to Heaven. Anyway, I saw Damien Rice. It was either him or the Arctic Monkeys. It was a tough choice but I saw him. He was very very good. Then I made my way to Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. A very different feel to them. Different crowd. But still very cool. The sun had set and I was not sweating as much. I still had to take my shirt off though. So to cap the night off, it was Arcade Fire. If The White Stripes would have showed up like they had promised, it would have been no contest, I would have camped out to get a good seat across the park. But it was either The Muse or Arcade Fire. I like The Muse but I love Arcade Fire. So I stood closer to their stage to check them out. Let me say, they are fucking awesome live. They ended their show with an encore of Wake Up and everyone sang along. I almost cried. I think I did. And afterward, we all walked out and suprisingly the line for the shuttle was shorted than Friday's. More people were walking the 2-3 miles back to downtown across the river. WTF. These people must have iron feet and small sweat glands. Anyway, things went a lot more smoother and I made it back to my friend's apartment again. His roommate was home and he let me in. I showered and fell asleep right away with Arcade Fire humming in my head. That was Satruday. A good efficient day.
