I know it's been hammered into your heads countless times, but i'm here to make my case.
This past thursday night (it was around 12:30am, so technically it was friday the 13th) I was in a car accident.
A car ran a red light and T-boned our car, a Honda Accord. I was driving, and my girlfriend was the passenger. our car spun, then stopped. reached up and touched my forehead, blood. looked at my girlfriend, are you ok? no. i'm bleeding. me too. the wind was ripped from my body. couldn't talk. couldn't breathe. instantly the guy is at our window, are you ok? no. you ran that red light. you're wasted. no we aren't you ran that red light. guy can barely stand up straight. we don't need to call the cops. we don't need to get anyone involved in this. katie and i are both bleeding profusely. she's dialing 911. he's harassing us. cops are there instantly. splitting us apart. attending to our wounds. cops asking questions. breathalyzer. into the ambulance. still bleeding from my head. katie's in a stretcher with a neck brace. i get an IV, oxygen, on a heart monitor. ride to the hospital. into the emergency room i need stitches. 5. other guy came in for blood work. talked to the technician. he'd been arrested for drunk driving. we get x-rays. every thing's ok. we just hurt. 4:30am they release us. call a cab. home to bed.
spent the weekend recovering. went back to the doctor last night because i keep getting a sharp pain in my side, having trouble sleeping, and breathing. Prolly have a fractured rib, nothing they can really do about it. it will heal.
my point is, i'm lucky to be alive and very thankful for that. i've had a very introspective weekend.some of you may know, this is the second time i've had a run in with a drunk driver. i just dont want to see any of you in this position. or worse. i'll post pictures of the car when i get a chance.
