Not only do I hear this at least once a day, but now the celebs are weighing in...
Billy Bob Thornton and his band The Boxmasters did a signing at my store last week. First of all, Billy Bob was a funny, charming, nice jackass of a guy. He couldn't have been any cooler to the staff or the customers.
I was the one waiting for the entourage at our back door. When they pulled up and came inside, everyone started introducing themselves to me. When Billy Bob came up, I shook his hand and said, "Hey, Billy Bob Thornton!" The first words out of his mouth were, "Hey, man, when we were pulling up, two different people in the van said-Look! John Lennon's waiting for us on the curb!"
They were also nice enough to hook up me with tickets for their gig at the Hi-Tone that night and that was quite the party including, but not limited to, Steve Cohen giving a humorous election-eve campaign speech to the people in line and Jim Dandy taking the stage with Billy Bob.
I knew things were going to be interesting when the people in line for the signing included Jim Dandy (from Black Oak Arkansas,) Nate The Rat Whitlock (cab-driver, wrestling manager, and brother of musician Bobby Whitlock,) some guy who used to be a doorman/bouncer at Sweet's (that'll be a dolla,) and some gal I used to talk to on occasion years ago at the Eagle's Nest. Wow.
