Hello all..... Time for another hiking update. Since I quit my job, I celebrated by going hiking first fucking thing..... Monday is the start of the new job hunt. Wish me luck....

Ok, I went hiking in the Mount Mitchell State park. It is a Really neat place. The ecosystem above 5,000 ft changes drasticly. The Effects of acid rain are very evident. You will see large numbers of dead trees in some of the pics. The forest is begining to grow back. I remember when I was a lot younger, the whole tops of the mountains were dead. now, you can see that a lot of the pines are growing back. This first photo is from from the summit of Locke Craig, Elevation 6,663 ft. It is named after a govenor of NC that was responsible for starting the park. He started that work between 1913 and 1917. The park was finally established in 1980. Nice and timely, Huh.....

As we were hiking, we got lucky enough to see some deer crossing a section of the trail. The photos are not the best, but damn, they are hard to get close to. I couldn't turn my camera on fast enough....... These two came out the best....

New forest growing in the older dead, acid rain forest...

Most of the leaves at this elevation are dead and brown already. I did get this photo of a "patch" several hundred feet below us.

Here is another one of the craggy peaks before Mitchell.

In this picture, taken from the Craggys, you can see a cliff in the center. I zoomed in as far as I could to get the water fall. The water fall is the coolest shit from the bottom of it. It is on the Asheville watershed property, so it's not legal to go there. (yours truly knows how to get there, without getting caught). I think it would be a killer place for a photoset in the early spring. There are trilliums and several kinds of wild orchids that grow all around the spray cliffs, many kinds of mosses and ferns as well. It looks like some place out of a fairy tail. Next spring, I will go there to take pictures of all of it. I hope I can find someone who would like to do a set there. wink wink

There are much larger photos of these and more photos in my "outdoor fun" folder. It took me forever to work on all of these, so check them out.....

I am ready to make some more coffee, later........

TJB wink wink
