Got to work for a bit in France last week. The work required a good deal of talking Spanish, even though this was in Burgundy, and drinking wine out on the lawn here.
Just finished the piece, about an artist with a big show coming up. Now I'm staring at a book deadline that's enormous: start to finish in ten months. First chore, become an expert all over again in an entirely new subject. Performers have higher standards than writers--I only have to know everything not actually do it. Here's my guideline: I know I've crossed the threshold of expertise when I start asking them Yeah-but questions they can't answer. I'm sooooo far from that point now.
