A dramatic rescue took place on the Hoe last night when a man was pulled from the rocks by police in rough weather.
Police were alerted to a man on the Hoe during Thursday night at about 9.45pm.
A member of the public was already with the man, believed to be in his 40s, who was acting violently down by the water between Tinside Lido and the Coffee Shack.
Waves crashed over five police officers as they clambered down to rescue the man, along with the member of public who helped them.

A spokesperson from the Plymouth emergency response unit said the team struggled to carry the man off the rocks and on to dry land in terrible weather conditions.
The spokesperson said: "It's lucky no one was pulled into the water as waves were engulfing them [the police and the man].
"The man wasn't engaging and we had to get back quickly as the waves would have taken everyone away."
The man was arrested and taken into custody.
