Lundi Gras, I had to work. And then it rained all day and it was miserable. As I was slated for a party the next day I did nothing, and enjoyed it.
Woke up the next morning at 7 AM sharp. The second line parades often start at 6 AM, so I got on the saddle and attempted to find one. No luck, although I finally saw a Mardi Gras Indian. Black feather plumes, highlited with white, swirls of white beads and pseudo-Indian scenes (according to Mardi Gras Indian tradition) adorning each flange.
Spent the next three hours biking around. Burn calories for the coming feast.
Christy and Sisco were already up and cooking. There were about 30 less people than expected at the party - the neighbor who was to bring them left for the parades at 11 AM and never came back - so we were stuck with 135 lbs. of live crawfish. Those there managed, somehow, to eat about 100 lbs. of the crawfish (remember, the edible meat of a crawfish is a relatively small percent of the total bug mass) along with all the other food and drink.
As for me, I never overindulged in anything, although I did get to try MDMA for the first time. Just a small hit. I didn't feel anything but apparently my judgement was slightly impared, looking back.
The previous year I spent 6 hours on Mardi Gras just sitting on my porch resting. This seems to me to be an entirely correct way to spend a Mardi Gras. Lent is hard work. Rest now. And I did the same, sitting on the porch for many hours not saying much. It was what I wanted to do.
There are other stories here but I an tired and I will now take my leave.
