(note: this is fiction and kind of gross)
ONE FINE DAY-
4:27am
I awake to the familiar sound of something clicking across the linoleum.
A rat, a cockroach perhaps? I don't know why they persist, there is no food here for them to steal.
5:12am
As I force my body to an upright position the sudden shift of fluid in my lungs causes a coughing fit which lasts for about ten minutes. The sludge that came up was rather intriguing. I was not aware that the human body could produce such a vile substance.
5:22am
I painfully make my way to the bathroom.
In the bathroom are three buckets. One for toilet, one for sick, and one to wash with. From the condition of the buckets I figure it must be about four weeks since they turned the water off. The contents look the same in each.
Today I feel pretty good so I only use the wash bucket. There is nothing left inside me to puke or shit out anyway. I gaze into the mirror for what seems like an eternity.
I look good, or just don't know the difference anymore. I smooth my hair with some soap and Vaseline and straighten out my clothes.
Dapper.
5:57am
I swiftly move to the couch and survey my surroundings.
Empty liquor bottles are strewn everywhere. Cigarette burns are begining to make various patterns and pictures in the dilapidated cushions of the green couch. Tell-tale black smudges cover the coffee table, stray needles lying about next to the spoon. Random articles of clothing, mens and womens, are clumped in piles over the floor torn and dirty. Rat feces and dust cover every surface. I notice for the first time that a subtle red tint has washed over everything that I see.
6:07am
I take a large swallow of leftover whiskey. Now I am ready.
Today is the big day.
Today I change everything.
Today is going to be One Fine Day.
