I hope everyone has a nice holiday. I keep getting these pops of goodwill and general nostalgic blissfullness. I think it's because I keep singing carols to myself. Also, having (sorta) a BA in religous studies, any hybrid holiday is exciting and interesting to me. So burn your yule, slaughter the children, and drink some nog for me, as you celebrate the coming death of god on earth, and the rebirth of the sun, and the eventual demise of your own chidren and childhood, while acting like you judged and were judged worthy or unworthy of arcane blessings like candy canes and a new bb gun. It is a beautifully mixed up thing we do! Rejoice!
Wednesday, I went to see Jim Watson of the Red Clay Ramblers. He's been doing a christmas show every year for 20 years and this was the first time I'd ever heard about it. He passes out sheet music for everyone in the bar. It was billed as THE caroling event of the year. It was so much fun to sing along with him and his high and whiney bluegrass voice. I wish I had more time to get everyone together to go wassailing this year. Drinking, singing, friendship, and good times...
