Well, today George Herbert Walker Bush came to my small Saskatchewan City. People forked out one hundred bucks to hear him speak. I'm gonna let everyone in on a little secret: not a big fan o' the George W.
There was a protest and it was cool and lame. Pretty fun really. Security was so tight that everyone who was going to see George Bush speak had to wait outside. And the protesters all chanted "shame on you"! Kinda awesome, but kinda shitty, since some people who might not be real Bush supporters may have been in line. I had to restrain myself from yelling zingers.
I hope that George is taken to the Hague. Let the world court decide if he is guilty or innocent of war crimes. I think there should be a trail. I don't want to see him hung. I hated these wars before they started. My first trip to the United States was to a protest in Seattle in 1999. I didn't know much about the WTO except I knew people in Bolivia couldn't take the rain that fell from the sky. I knew this was wrong. I also knew that Western foreign policy (Canada and American) was bullshit. I knew that I was outraged on behalf of the poor people of the world. I've grown cynical over protests. Now I find them entertaining. Mostly Laughable, because I wasn't laughing I'd be crying.
All in all quiet a day. Waste of time? I don't think so, but time will tell.
