OK, I know that I said that I was taking a break from SG, but I am in need of your advice. After posting this, I will resume my hiatus once again.
I just got back from an art opening. A cute girl came up to me tonight, said hi, and then paused. For a moment, I didnt recognize her, but then.........well, then I did.
She is someone I knew for a brief period of time when I was in grad school. For ease of explanation, lets call her S. At the time, S. had just moved here from NY, for a temporary job. We met through a mutual friend, and I only saw her while in the company of this person. Back then, S. was planning to move back to NY, into the arms of her boyfriend who was anxioulsy awaiting her return. I had heard that they were engaged to be married, but had not seen her since she left LA. It's probably been almost 6 years.
Turns out, shes been living here for the past 3 years. She moved back to LA to work and has lived here ever since. She and her fianc never got married, nor are they still together.
I always liked S., we got along swell. Shes smart and funny, but I never seriously pursued her because of the BF (and Im sure that she never considered me for the same reason). But when I saw her eyes again tonight, I remembered how I once felt about her. We talked for quite awhile tonight and exchanged numbers. Id love to ask her out, but heres the rub. When she walked up to me tonight, she recognized me, but had FORGOTTEN MY NAME. Granted, its been six years, but that doesnt really seem like a very promising sign (I remember the name of her fianc, whom I never even met, by the way!).
Im sure that I will ask her out sometime in the future as we have a lot in common and more catching up to do, but do you think there is any chance that she could be interested in me given that she couldnt remember my name? You should know that I am notorious for mistaking signals from the ladies. I have a long history of uncomfortable exchanges with women who, unfortunately, did not feel the same vibe that I was feelin. Wed be really, really great together, I just dont know how to convey that to her. Im afraid that she might just see me as a friend whose name she cannot remember. I dont wanna fuck up again.
Oh, incidentally....that friend that we used to have in common....neither one of us talks to her anymore, so she wont be of any help in this situation.
