Recently rented horror flicks and reviews...
Okay, I've got a great local video shop here called Wild n' Wooly that carries all the latest in indie, horror, cult classic, foreign and hard to find films...plus porn. However, the theme for this entry is Horror. I've rented a ton of horror movies over the last couple weeks, so here's a list of some of these films and a quick review of each.
Wizard of Gore (2008): Strange...but good. Plus, with Crispin Glover and the Suicide Girls, how can you go wrong? Some sick ideas and a good twist ending mix well with the boobs and blood. A little less gory than the original, but still fun.
Zombie Diaries: Not impressed. When you've seen 1000 zombie movies, it takes a little creativity to stand out. Decent kills, but just doesn't work as a coherent film.
Storm Warning: Gruesome and brutal with an extremely painful rape scene (and not just for the girl either). Terrific believability, crazy characters, and the revenge is definitely sweet.
Quarantine: Fantastic! From the beginning, I could already tell that things were going to get fucked up. This movie is terrifying and fun at the same time, I can't wait to own it. I tried renting the original film [REC] first, but the DVD was a code that my player wouldn't read.
Diary of the Dead: Not bad. I've always loved George Romero and I own his entire "Dead" series. This isn't a continuing chapter in that world, though it fit's into the genre nicely. Some very clever and fresh zombie moments make for a decent undead outing.
Zombie Strippers: Pretty goddamm entertaining. Jenna Jameson is hot, Robert Englund is amazing, and the overall idea is fantastic! This isn't Citizen Kane, it's Zombie Strippers. Lots of boobs, lots of blood, and lots of hilarious scenes.
Rest Stop 1 & 2: Decent. I didn't really care for the first of these, but upon watching the sequel, number one made more sense. The gore was good, but it failed to scare.
Tokyo Gore Police: INSANE!!! Warning, this movie comes with a word of advice. If you have a weak stomach, or can't handle.....if ANYTHING grosses you out, don't watch this movie. But, if you like gore, Japanese flicks, chicks, monsters, people that grow weapons on their bodies, and all-out crazieness...this is your movie.
I've got a few more, but this is enough for now. Let me know if you've seen any of these and your thoughts.
Pieces,
