Ok so, scrolling through the blog homework thread (if you've not seen it just click here - its great fun and a great way to interact with others on the site. 10/10 recommend)... and I found this!
8/24: What is your "I know it sounds weird, but just try it" thing?
The Aussie in me just had to talk about one of my favourite things to snack on as a kid. Uber unhealthy/not nutritional. But hey, I was a kid! And I'm sure there is worse out there.
So.... I hope I don't scare all the Americans away with this one. Aussies have done you a disservice by not showing you the correct way to eat delicious, yummy vegemite! Of course you won't like it if you just get given a spoonful of vegemite. I don't think anyone would like that. Not anyone sane anyway.....
Lets start off with the correct way to make vegemite toast. Step by step.
Step 1. Choose your bread. Sourdough is yummy, but you can really choose whatever bread you like
Step 2. Toast bread to your liking.
Step 3. Smear warm toast with butter (I personally prefer nuttelex)
Step 4. Take a small amount of vegemite on your butter knife and apply in a thin (THIN!!) layer
Do you want a video of me showing you how to make vegemite toast?
So, to level this up and make it a bit of a fun flavour combo... you're going to want to grab white or raw sugar.
Following step 4, get a small spoon an rain the sweet goodness over the vegemite toast in a thin layer. You can also 'sugar bae' this if you want to get your hands involved.
Cut however you wish, small squares, triangles... or just pick the toast up and take a big bite!!!
Honestly, its amazing. The difference between the vegemites salty, almost meaty flavour, with the sweetness of the sugar. It's a great balance of flavours.
Alternatives for vegemite+sugar toast are, avocado and vegemite, cheese and vegemite (grilled cheese and vegemite is the tits!!).
You can add vegemite to sausage roll recipes, beef pies, or the iconic cheesy vegemite scrolls! Fellow Aussies.... what's your favourite way to make vegemite dishes?
