This is perfect timing as my gorgeous gal pal @redraven6 is getting sick, and when I said turmeric to her she remembered to make my amazing cold kicker to help her through it all.
So, she is vegan (or the Big V as I like to call it... mostly just because I have a dirty mind and it makes me chuckle)... so she can't add in one of the ingredients, but it doesn't make it any less amazing for if you have a cold (or feel the beginnings of one).
My mix of goodies, includes some anti-inflammatory thingies.
-Turmeric
-Honey
-Ginger
-Cloves (this helps to numb your sore throat)
-Paprika (just a little pinch)
So what I do is I get a container that can be popped in the fridge (a glass container or something like an old coffee jar is perfect! And it means you can re-use instead of throwing a container away.
So I cut the lemon pretty thin and layer it in the container. With each layer I sprinkle the ginger, turmeric, cloves and paprika. After your container is pretty much full, grab your honey and pour it in.
This is then stored in the fridge, the lemon slices soften a little and it all marinades into the cold fighting kickass thing that it is. As you and/or your family use it you can top it up too!
So what I do with this golden goodness is grab a slice or two of the lemon, a clove or two and a teaspoon (or tablespoon if you're a sweet lover), and pop it in your favourite mug and top with hot/boiled water. Sip while you read a book or binge watch your favourite tv show, and let the golden goodness work its magic.
Hopefully this helps you fight that flu, because it definitely helps me kick the death flu faster than just sippin on good ol (read:disgusting) lemsip.
P.s I am unsure of a good honey substitute that is also super good for you (anti inflammatory goodness) but if you need the sweetness maybe agave nectar will be ok? I haven't tried it though so I cant tell you how good it is.
May your sickness not leave you down for too long <3 Hopefully @missy , @rambo and the rest of SG get some relief on their sick days!
