Well, I had a good weekend. The Philly Tattoo arts convention went on, which was a lot of fun. It was my first convention so I didnt really know what to expect, but it was a lot of fun.
It started Friday, but it wasnt that busy. I just walked around and saw the freak show. Some guy stapled a hundred dollar bill to the performers head, 4 times with a staple gun. Hardcore, I guess . I dont think some peoples parents paid enough attention to them. Then there was some guy who picked up barbells with his nipples, the great nippleini.
On Saturday I entered the contest, best large color piece. There was a bunch of good work, but I won 3rd place for my piece done by YMonster. I was really pleased; I won a trophy in my first convention for my first tattoo.
On Sunday I entered the other contest for best oriental piece. I won 2nd place in that, but one of the judges came up to me and started apologizing, saying I should have won. I dont want to sound cocky or unappreciative, but I am competitive and really did want to win, I would have gotten a plaque to give to YMonster for his work, but oh well, maybe next time. I did make me feel good that the judge came up to me and told me I had the better piece.
So it was a very fun weekend all around. A bunch of times I was stopped by people to ask to see my piece and take pictures, and a few of the artists called me over to see. I got my tattoo for myself first and foremost, but it feels nice that something I'm so proud of gets recognized like that.
