Hellooooo Everyone!!! Bonjour tout le monde! Всем привет! ¡Hola a todos! Olá a todos! 大家好!!!
Especially fans of Empowered Women in Music, especially Metal!
Are you ready to see and read about the amazing time I had at the Halestorm/In This Moment/New Year’s Day concert on the 16th of August? I knew it! All, right then, get ready to Rock!
I had the good fortune of attending the concert with a co-worker that I didn’t know was a Halestorm fan until 2 days before the show. What she didn’t know was that I had an extra ticket that I bought 4 months earlier, hoping I would meet a new friend or at least a fellow fan before the concert. It turned out the day after the concert was her Birthday! I got to be part of the universe’s B-Day gift to her! I am not making this up!
As you know if you’ve been reading my blogs, I live only about 1.5 miles from all the major concert venues in my home city of Spokane, WA. So our adventure starts with a pleasant walk through town, and then across a footbridge over the river! The picture doesn’t do it justice.
Although you can’ tell from the photos I took from my phone, we had really good seats! My companion was beside herself with excitement! Halestorm is her favorite band, but she’d never seen them live before!
HOWEVER - THIS WAS NO ONE BAND SHOW. All three of the bands rocked the house, and make no mistake, this show was all about female empowerment! The energy was so powerful you could feel it from the start!
Part 1: NEW YEAR’S DAY
Opening the show with minimal special effects was New Year’s Day. Prior to the show, I listened to music from all 3 bands, and I wasn’t really getting into NYD’s latest album. However, they played a wide variety of their songs, and I found myself to be a HUGE fan by the time they finished. The lead vocalist, Ash Costello, really threw herself into the process of energizing the crowd, starting with a “sacrifice to the Metal Gods,” during which the audience held their both hands up with their “horns” for the duration of the entire song. Ash is only 5’2”(1.6 meters), but she has the power of a mini-sun! My favorite part was when she taught the audience to sing the chorus to their song, “Epidemic,” encouraging everyone to sing, “We’re so, we’re so contagious!” I’ve included photos from both my iPhone 8 and those from the local radio station 94.5 (they rock) to give you an idea. At one point, Ash stood on top of the speakers after literally running and jumping around the stage. The bassist and guitarist were no less acrobatic! New Year’s Day - Epidemic
Me, after the show, thinking about New Year’s Day:
Needless to say, the little girly demon my mother was always afraid I would become was unleashed that night! We were seriously stoked and ready for the next act, and I hope you are too: IN THIS MOMENT! Stay tuned for Part 2!
