Oi! Здравствуй! Hola! Bonjour!
Hello everyone! I have been so ridiculously busy for so long, I haven’t even bothered to check my horoscope or the weekly SG homework for months. But today I have spent some very rewarding time on the SG site, and this week’s homework is oddly relevant. So: Here’s my weekly horoscope from a site whose interpretations of the stars usually fits me to a “T:”
“Capricorn: Heal the place your heart lives. You want sex to be fun for yourself and all parties included – so work to make sure that it is. The way you experience other people’s emotions can be incredibly enjoyable when you create a way to express your empathy. Make this expression a daily practice. Feel another person’s heart beat and fall in love.”
To be frank, I rarely check my horoscope, because I’ve found that most people are charlatans when it comes to interpreting anything that requires knowledge of forces outside of this tiny wet rock we call Earth.
However, this week’s horoscope is right on in ways that would be extraordinarily creepy if I didn’t already know that astrology has elements of truth in it.
To make a long story short, I was recently contacted via Facebook messenger by a friend of a friend...or so I thought. She turned out to be a catfish, a criminal using a beautiful woman’s photos to fabricate a false identity in order to extort money. Now, I have been trained to spot these types of fraudulent attacks by my current employer and my previous one, so I ended up dragging out my interaction with the catfish, extracting as much information as I could to provide to the F.B.I. (The Federal Bureau of Investigation, for those outside the U.S.). I have to admit that I became almost sadistic in manipulating the emotions of the fraudster at one point, and that’s when it hit me: I was reacting to someone trying to exploit my generous nature by fraudulently presenting themselves as a romantic partner. I normally do everything I can not to hurt the feelings of anyone around me, and seeing myself using the catfish’s own techniques against her made me realize just how vulnerable I was because of how badly my heart had been broken by my last very long-term relationship.
When I checked my horoscope for this blog entry, I realized that I have totally closed myself off to the possibility of romantic love, even though I have been permanently separated from my wife for 10 months. Everything in my life has been getting better and better, so it’s only natural for some area of weakness to be revealed. I’m not saying that I’m ready to have another relationship, but my horoscope did, in fact, accurately describe my current emotional situation, and I was already working on my empathy when I read the horoscope.
So, there are two things I’d like to emphasize: one, if you’re not familiar with catfishing, then I strongly encourage you to google it; two, if you don’t believe in astrology, remember that even a stopped clock is correct twice a day.
I’d also like to give a shout out to all my Brazilian followers, especially @Mari, who recently became Pink! As I was reading a translation of her poetry in the Writer’s Group from January (which I highly recommend), I realized that I have many Brazilian followers.
Vocês são todos maravilhosos, e tentarei aprender mais Português, se não por outro motivo, do que apreciar suas próprias palavras quando o inglês não for bom o suficiente.
Much love to everyone!
