Hello, Hola, Oi, Bonjour, Everyone! So much has occurred over the last five months that I will have to break my next entries into several smaller segments. So let’s begin!
Here is the building where I live now – it was built in 1906 as a hotel. I love it! Wait until you see what it looked like on Halloween!
Six months I ago I was informed by my day job employer that my department was being consolidated to Spokane, WA. I had two choices: take a severance package and find a new job, or take a relocation bonus and move. Sometimes you have to sit back and look closely at your life and marvel just how wonderfully the Divine has orchestrated everything. I had already traveled to the Spokane office, so I knew what it was like, and I was open to relocating. In addition, my mother and my sister had both recently moved to Spokane several months before for unrelated reasons. I had also had the desire to move to a larger city for some time, but I wasn’t sure where.
However, Spokane is over 500 miles north of where I used to live, and my partner had no interest in moving further north. As it was, we had finally reached a point in our relationship after 23 years together where it was time for us to go different directions. So, I amicably separated from her and chose to move. In addition, the departmental consolidation opened up a supervisory position for which I was recommended. I interviewed for the position, and as a result, when I arrived on the job in early September, I had taken a promotion and received a SIGNIFICANT raise in pay.
But with every positive change, there are always obstacles and negative effects. When I moved, I packed all of my possessions into my little red Honda H-RV (with the exception of six boxes of books which I shipped to myself at my new address) and drove north with my cat. This meant that I arrived with no furniture. So, I’ve been gradually accumulating the items I need: a comfy sofa-bed, my awesome new desk, and shelves for my books. I don’t need a lot, since I only have a studio apartment, which is what I wanted, but I still don’t have many basics: a proper office-style chair for my desk, a TV with an appropriate cabinet for it to sit on, and a proper table at which to sit to eat. I also need to get a cat tree, because my cat loves being up high and there’s nothing that she can really climb on, and an area rug would be nice, because hard wood floors, as much as I love them, are cold!
My cat, Sha'uri. She was named after Daniel Jackson's wife from the movie Stargate.
Fortunately, I was able to borrow a table and chairs from my mom, and everything has worked out perfectly. I now live only about a mile from the office where I work, so I walk almost every day – more about that in the next installment. Still, in spite of the perfection of it all, I’ve had one major obstacle: my health. About three weeks ago I started fighting bronchitis, and when I went to the doctor, I discovered that my thyroid and adrenal glands are also in seriously awful shape; however, my new doctor is AWESOME! She figured out what was wrong with me in one visit, where my previous doctor hadn't done a thing for me in 8 YEARS.
A Christmas gift from my mom – a cute little mouse. It’s like she’s warming herself with the candle flame. We had a true white Christmas!
That’s enough for now – in my next entry I’ll tell you about the HP Lovecraft Film Festival in October and what’s been happening with my current novel as a result of the chaos of moving! I’ll also share my opinion on two of the best movies of 2017.
I’ve been so busy, I’ve got a HUGE number of new sets to catch up on both from SGs and hopefuls, not to mention all the blogs of those that I follow. Have an unbelievably fabulous day!
