I, like most people, have had some pretty bad "downs" in my life. Times where I couldn't see the way out of the forest as it were. I've found that in those moments, where it gets darkest, my refuge is music. It can save your life.
As Meat Loaf said "If you hold onto a chorus, you can get through the night".
As I pivot in life, I'm coming back to music, and the amazing musicians I have had the chance to work with, and hope to do so again in the future. I'm using this space to help organize my thoughts, and remind myself of the awesome chorus' that have kept me going. If you happen to read this, I hope these artist can help you out, and maybe you can drop me a line with some chorus' that helped you when you were low.
"Cause sometimes summer gets away much too fast - And sometimes hope and love and dreams are out of grasp - so before flowers go out of bloom - before time gets away from you - catch the sunrise, don't you let that moment pass."
The boys of After Funk have been friends for a long time, and really were the first interview I did where I was nervous as hell. They are, however, some of the nicest, most amazing artists I've ever dealt with. This track, called Catch the Sunrise, has been one of my go-to tracks if I'm feeling down, or in a great mood.
"Sun coming down on the dead street - Listen to the concrete making music under our feet"
I've been lucky enough to see Autumn Kings grow from a high school garage band to the amazing band it is now. I got to know them because of mutual friends, and I will always be in their corner. This track, called "Runnin from the Police" keeps me going.
"I could see it rising on the water - Hold my breath and dive in - Feed my soul"
Stuck on Planet Earth was probably one of the oddest interviews I've ever done, and that should say something, considering how my interviews usually go. Normally the band does their set, comes in for a 5-15 minute interview, then they have other places to go. These guys stayed and co-hosted my entire show. It was completely welcome, because they were fun, awesome and hilarious - but I was not expecting it, threw me off my game. This chorus is from "The Rising" - it was the first track they played.... and I can hear Adam hit those notes...
"Hold on - I'm still waiting for a call that never comes - this is such a good move for you"
The Cardboard Crowns, the most Ska 4 piece I've ever heard, was the first live-to-air and interview I've ever done. Thankfully it was with some incredibly awesome guys... half the time they guided me through the interview. This is from "Hold On", and those moments where you're waiting for the good to come...
