Apparently the "great blackout" was a year ago this weekend. Luckily, I was off work that day, so I didn't have to make my way home from half-way across the city with no public transportation and no traffic lights. I do remember that once the vendors along Yonge street realized what was happening, they started giving away free ice cream so that it didn't melt in their freezers. I scrambled to stock up on food and candles (luckily I'd been to the bank machine the day before), and did OK for the first but wasn't able to get any light. So when the sun was going down it was kind of spooky, because it was going dark and with few exterior windows, there was nothing to light most of the apt..
