The borderline of sleep is filled with bandits. They hijack my thoughts and carry them, unwilling, into hostile territory. Peaceful sleep itself seems more an illusion these days. How can I rest well and easy when I had to wear my mind out to the point of exhaustion before I even attempt it?

Do you exercise? Regular exercise, even if it's as little as walking up and down the stairs in my building for half an hour a day, totally helps me sleep at night. I find that I only have trouble falling asleep if I spend an entire day slacking off and doing nothing physically productive.
