so... i bought a house.
a few months ago we found out that my wife is pregnant. since then we've found out that it's a boy! my daughter was a little let down as she wanted a sister, but she's now excited as my wife gets more and more visibly pregnant.
after we realized our place was too small to accommodate us and all of our stuff, we decided to go looking for houses. the process was extremely frustrating. With so many rich people out there buying up property with cash, only to rent it to normal families, the market is extremely hard for us normal folks.
after touring many homes over many weeks the perfect home popped up on our search. our realtor wasn't able to take us there that day because they were already booked up, so i drove out to take a look at it myself. and it was perfect. well.... perfect for my wife. she loves old timey looking stuff, and this place fit the bill. cabinets and appliances straight out of little house on the prairie.
we offered the owners exactly what they were asking, i won't tell you how much but california is ridiculous. they accepted our offer after our realtor told them we were a young family looking for their first home. turns out the owners grew up in the house and didn't want to sell it to investors or house flippers.
fast forward through a lot of ridiculousness and a boatload of money out the door and we are moved in. I've been working a lot updating the electrical system and ventilation systems for the bathrooms, spending more time in the attic than i care too. finally i am done with all of that, all of our stuff is here.
on Sunday i hooked up the clothes washer and did a load of laundry, only to find that when the water drained into the pipes the sinks and showers in the rest of the house began to fill with water. our 55 year old home has cast iron pipes that are rusted and clogged to hell and back. so now i'm waiting on a plumber to get here, climb under the house, and clear out our main drain pipe. this is ridiculous.
i love our place, but being moved in for less than a week and already looking at a possible $1800 plumbing bill is a bitch.
anyway, here's some pictures of the place
and here's a shot from the hike my daughter and i went on. we mobbed bettie down this mile long dirt road. woooo!!!

thanks Kay, it is a really nice place. just need to fix the couple of issues, which are seeming to get bigger. we may have to dig up our front yard to fix the pipes.
