Greetings SG world! I’m Rob. I’ve attempted to write a blog more times than I care to remember, but always delete it before posting, for reasons ranging from a belief that no one will be interested, to fearing what people will think. I’ve always been low on confidence, particularly when it comes to introductions and meeting new people. This time however is different.
Before I go any further I need to say a massive thank you to the lovely @phianixx without whom I would not be writing this now. She is an incredible person, and has given me the inspiration and self belief to finally become a part of the rich community that exists on this site. I’ve been a member for years, but without really interacting in any way, and she has shown me a joy of reaching out and self expression that before meeting her was alien to me. She has had a huge effect on me in the time we have known each other, and I will always be truly grateful to her. Her original suggestion was to do one of the 20 questions ones, which I will get round to at some stage, but I’ve opted for a rambling introduction for now instead.
so, who am I? Well my name is Rob, I’m 34, and a plumber and heating engineer from Birmingham, UK. I’ve been in my current job for 7 years, before which I worked in retail for a number of different companies, the longest of which was for Woolworths, I’d been there around 9 years before the business collapsed. I love what I do, and can’t see any more career changes in my future.
Ive recently bought my first house, with my fiancée, who is the absolute centre of my world. She has changed me in a way that I didn’t know a person could, and im a much better person for having her in my life. We have been together for just over 10 years and engaged for 4. She suffers from bipolar disorder, which has provided a few challenges, but ultimately made us much stronger as we have learnt to overcome the hard times, she has made so much progress in recent years, and her strength is a constant inspiration to me.
I love music, mostly rock and metal, but I can find something to enjoy in pretty much any type of music. I buzzed just as much off seeing Little Mix as I did SOAD or Slipknot. Recently I’ve become pretty much obsessed with a Canadian band called Sumo Cyco, they are incredible live, and the frontwoman is an absolute star, so down to earth and incredibly talented as a performer. I urge anyone to check them out (live vids in my profile).
Aside from music I enjoy watching motorsport, particularly speedway and British touring cars, and pay an interest in local football teams, although can’t really class myself as a fan in the true sense. I love the game, more than individual teams so I enjoy watching whoever is on. When I get the opportunity I love going to the ballet, I particularly like Matthew Bournes work, The red shoes is my favourite so far, I love the drama of it, and just how physically impressive all of the performers are. I think ballet is part of what has given me an appreciation of beauty in all its forms, and ultimately what led me here in the first place.
I don’t have a lot of free time, but what I do have I tend to spend gaming. Not so much on consoles anymore though. I’m Ona mobile war game that takes up most of my game time, I’ve been playing with the same international group of players for around 5 years and made some strong friendships along the way.
A few even less interesting bits to finish... I’m an omnivore, I mostly vape, but cave in and smoke fairly regularly, I have a huge fondness for cannabis and the synthetic versions for vapes (probably bad for me but really good stuff!) I class myself as agnostic, there’s something out there but I don’t know what!!
Congratulations and thank you if you have made it this far, I’m actually going to post it this time!! Thanks again to @phianixx please check out her work and support her if you haven’t already, she is an amazing person, incredibly beautiful, and one of the nicest people I’ve had the pleasure of conversing with.
Bye for now! 👋🏻
