Dear Mr. Bush,
The British are going, the British are going!
At least, that's the heavily hinted at rumor coming out in the press. Apparently the British are poised to announce that they'll be pulling their troops out by May, 2006.
It's time for us to take a cue from one of our last remaining allies. Fuck pride, Mr. Bush. Fuck oil. Get the Iraqis trained, get thier puppet government in place, and let's bring our people home. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to say, "mission accomplished" and actually mean it, sir?
And hasn't it become readily apparent from the Katrina and Rita disasters that we need to take care of our citizens before we go cramming democracy down the throats of middle easterners? Even your friends in the House of Saud are starting to lose their patience with you. What more is it going to take?
Wouldn't it be nice to not be hounded by the press, mothers of soldiers killed in action, plumeting public opinion polls, and the few Democrats who actually have backbones? Surely it would help you to sleep better at night. And it would help those of us who have loved ones deployed to Iraq sleep better at night, as well. It may actually turn your opinion ratings around, sir. And it may very well save your "legacy" come November of 2006.
The people haven't just spoken this weekend, Mr. Bush; they've shouted from the rooftops! Prove to them that this is still a government of the people, for the people, and by the people. Prove to the ever increasing number of those that have lost faith in you that they made the right decision by "staying the course" with you in 2004.
It's time to step up and be the leader that you promised to be. Let your father's agenda go. Stop giving away no-bid government clean-up contracts to Dick Cheney's friends. Bring our soldiers in Iraq home. Show the character and honor that you have thus far failed to demonstrate on any policy you've stood behind during your tenure in office.
Your country is throwing down the gauntlet, sir. Will you have the strength and fortitude it's going to take to pick it up? In defiance of my own common sense, I truly hope so. Despite every fiber of my being telling me it will never happen on your watch, I foolishly hope.
I hope.
Sincerly yours,
- Darcie O.

Like a true Sagittarian, you've hit the mark. Unfortunately I can't see an appeal to decency or integrity having any effect on the Chimp. I was posing such rhetorical questions as this for about a week after 9/11, until it became clear that this man, in addition to being a dry alcoholic of world rule, has absolutely no vision at all. Anyway, keep the faith and - lets throw those rascals out!
