So a long time friend of mine (we went to high school together) has spent the last 7 years working for GameStop. He started as a manager trainee and has worked his way up to District Manager. I worked with him as his assistant manager for 2 years. He is a great employee, very loyal, a very good boss, and always focused on what is best for the store/district/company.
I just learned that he was laid off ON THANKSGIVING! He has been written up once the entire time he was with them (for letting a store destroy their own broken product, and that was about 4 and a half years ago). Both before and after that he has been a model employee. He has always been near the top of the boards in every category they were ranking at the time. He has been through a lot (i could continue to rant, and if you want to know more i will certainly indulge you) and now they are just letting him go. A new regional manager came in and apparently because of personality conflicts (i am no there and so am taking the word of a trusted friend who i have seen in action) he was told "you just aren't the right fit for the company anymore"
SO!
I am asking everyone who is willing to say FUCK GAMESTOP and stop buying stuff from them. At this point i am so heated that i would rather buy video games from Walmart than Gamestop....
Thanks SG!
I've worked in many jobs for many employers over all these years. I have witnessed things like this happening too many times to count. It never sat well with me, which is why I have very negative feelings about the business environment in general.
Still, as a young person, you can't afford to let your rightful indignation get to a point where it will affect your job. Discretion is the better part of valor in most cases involving the workplace.
Having said that, I want to say that I admire your values and your loyalty.
