My favorite hobby: Hula Hooping
As some of you may already know, one of my favorite hobbies has to do with flinging a plastic circle around my body while I dance inside/around it. So I’m gonna share more about how and why I got into it.... and of course a video and some fun photos!
🖤
Mainly I fell into hooping by attending my first EDM music festival! I remember seeing a handful of people doing exactly what I described above, I instantly was sucked in. The lights, the intricate tricks, the freedom and expression of dance. It just looked amazing. I proceeded to buy a cheaper led off amazon and start practicing. My first smart hoop was actually gifted to me by another hooper and since then I have gifted the same hoop to another beginner hooper. That’s another cool thing about this community of flow, we all (for the most part) have a very open and free spirit that encourages others success and we cheer each other on in our progress. I couldn’t have found a better place for myself.

Not only was hooping visually appealing but the fact that I’ve been dancing all my life and find dance as my favorite form of expression, made this new discovery even that more special.

I mainly taught myself from watching YouTube videos and countless hours of practice outside. I did however take a hoop workshop from one of the more popular hoopers I follow. It’s extremely gratifying to learn all these tricks and actually successfully land some of them. I couldn’t stop!

Eventually I broke down and bought my very own smart LED hoop. For those of you who don’t know what that is, basically it means my hoop is fully programmable from the different patterns uploaded to timing the hoop along with certain songs. You can actually make full images appear on the hoop and see the image while the hoop is in motion. Another feature is a gyroscope within the hoop, so some patterns have lights that follow the direction you move the hoop and stop moving when the hoop stops as well. It’s an impressive piece of equipment! Ever since I’ve been practicing almost daily, bringing it with to shows, festivals and even when I travel to shootfests for a little stress reliever.

By the end of summer it’ll be 4 years since I started and I can’t wait to see where I keep going with it. Ever year I learn more and more and I hope to eventually do more performance pieces in front of crowds with it!! Here’s to the beauty of dance!!
