So, we go from feeling on it to feeling under it. Getting to writing and thinking and then... the waters rise. Hah! Literally. Came in friday night to find about 2" of water in my daughter's room, her homework floating. The water heater broke in the laundry room and flooded her room, as well as part of our storage room and livingroom.
The bad things: books, records, comics, zines, furniture, wet and headed for ruin. Trumpet case, keyboard, wet and questionable. Telephone poured out water, hah!
The good things: All her instruments were put away properly, bass on its stand, double bass standing up off the floor. Laptop was on a table. The water was clean, and rose through the floor instead if coming down the walls or something. The huge pile of clothes on her closet floor absorbed a lot of water and kept the livingroom from being deluged. The landlord rocks, and has put us in a motel, had the clothes all cleaned already, helped us move stuff etc.
So life is a pain in the ass right now, but the house will be cleaner, have new carpet, etc. We can get rid of a lot of crap that should have gone anyhow. I don't have to pay rent next month! The place smells like a fish tank and the kitties are not happy at all. Nope. 95% of my records are ok, the bf has about 200 damaged, the kid about another 50. The comix *shudder* were on loan Books and furniture are replaceable, in general... I still don't know what books are damaged.
But, it's just stuff.
Poor kid has no idea where most of her homework is, only one textbook was on the floor, that's my next challenege, I want to try and get as much of that part of her life together for her as I can. She works hard enough as it is, and she needs to try and get something done tonight or she'll go all tense on me
Think dry thoughts.

OMG, in my old house I had the water heater bust....it was 6am, and we were all asleep, then the smoke alarm started going off. We had no idea why, searched the house, and opened the door to the room where the water heater was....and STEAM WAS POURING OUT LIKE SMOKE. the whole room was soaked and hot water was spraying everywhere. What a nightmare. Good luck to you, I'll send you my dry thoughts.
Happy Turkey Day!
