First and foremost: Please head over to Subrosa's journal and send him your condolances. His grandmother passed away Saturday after a long battle with Alzheimer's. His current entry is a beautiful eulogy to her. I left work early yesterday around 2, and that was when I got the voicemail- I called back immediately. I was on my way to San Francisco by 3. No one should ever have to be alone when one learns of the death of a loved one. Without Aegies, I would have fallen apart when my sister died last year. I can only hope that I was even 1/10th as comforting to him as Aegies was for me.
In other, brighter news and speaking of Aegies: I dropped by Davis today to visit him briefly and pick up the monitor he had procured for me from a former roommate. Not a moment too soon either- my old monitor was super dark, and was starting to flicker phychadelicaly when I turned it on and off. I painstaking peeled all the stickers off the old 17 inch monstrosity, unhooked everything and removed it. I hefted the new-to-me 19 inch beast into place, promptly busting the stand which Aegies had spent nearly 10 minutes attempting to fix. I finnagaled the stand out from under it while attempting to hold the monitor in one arm (which I strained trying not to drop it) However, I did managed, and this entry is delivered to you from its bright, crystal-clear loveliness.
I came home from SF today after my pit-stop in Davis, absolutely starving beyond recent memory's ability to recall. I've been wanting Oyaku Donburi something fierce for some time now, and been too broke to go aquire some in the standard way.
But lo! I own a japanese cookbook, and because of my general obsession with asian food, many of the ingriedents as well. I pulled down my cookbook and perused it- I had all the essential ingredients, sans an onion and one egg. At Safeway, I spent $4.32 of my remaining $9.10 which I have to last me till friday on 6 eggs, 1 onion, and 2 bulbs of garlic. 2 cups of dashi, 2 tablespoons of sake, 3 tablespoons of mirin, half an onion and 2 pieces of chicken sliced thinly, 3 tablespoons of shoyu, 3 eggs beaten lightly, and one steamer full of rice later, I had my donburi. And it was delicious! I'm so full. I almost took a picture of it- but donburi, exquisite though it may taste is not exactly attractive to behold, so I decided to spare everyone that expereince.
Moirae's movie premiered on Saturday. Good times were had by all- or I think so. There were some shinnanagans, but nothing hideously untoward. Both of us remained fairly sober all night long.
Tomorrow: She Wants Revenge is playing tomorrow night. Horray! Now, if only I had enough money to get a shirt... damn my small paychecks. Oh well. It'll still be a great time.
