i cant remember whether or not i mentioned how i'd watched Frida some time ago... well i did and i DVR'd it and i watch it at least once a week now. i'm obsessed. i was never into kahlo's work until i knew her story. my art teacher my senior yar was really excited about the film coming out and told me a few things about kahlo but it never really sunk in.
i was so very moved by it i wrote a pencil and paper journal entry about it on two different occasions...
one being about how much i loved the tango scene and it really represented why i love Ashley Judd and Salma Hayek so much. i've always been draw to them.
the film had it's slower points but remained utterly enthralling. now i want to know everything i can about Frida and find her work million times more interesting than Rivera's.
i loved the style...i love how they worked in kahol's paintings into the film... i thought it was visually beautiful.
i remember at that year's oscars when salma was nominated too... and everyone was giving her the lowest odds to win.. i remember someone saying that it was enough of an award for just to have gotten the film made.... i believe that was the year that nicole kidman won for The Hours... and i think that was also the year that Juliane Moore was up for Far From Heaven. ok... i've since seen the hours.... though i'm infatuated with Virginia Wolf i felt that Nicole Kidman did not do her justice by any means... and i loathed Far From Heaven. bleh. Juliane More was better in The Hours (for which she was nominated as best supporting actress) then in Far From Heaven.
so yeah...of the the three main nominees that i can remember and who's films i have now seen, Salma totally deserved it. she was brave and brilliant.
and i guess it could also be that i loved it so much is because i see a little bit of kahlo's style in my own paintings... i dont feel that they're totally ridiculous anymore. and i know i didn't subconciously rip her off because i dont think at the time when i started paining i'd really noticed any of kahlo's work.... the second coming i am not, but it just makes me feel like i should actually continue to paint and it wont seen utterly worthless.
so anyway...last night i watched Dig!... yeah shit... i wrote a pencil and paper journal entry about that one too..
for one, it makes me want to check out Brian Jonestown Masacare... but i know i'll always like The Dandy Warhols better. i've liked them for a while.... Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia was the first album that ever put on my media player in it's entirety. the documentary was pretty enthralling though. it was like a car crash.. you couldn't take your eyes off it. it was pretty sad and pathetic that someone would have to start a fued with their friends just because they were more successful...
i remember when the video for Not If You Were The Last Junkie On Earth came out and thought it was the fucking coolest thing ever. i got the song, i got the video...i must have been in like jr. high. what year did that come out? anyways...
watching it made me decide that i must see all the bands i love live that haven't broke up and who's members aren't dead...
Dresden Dolls, Regina Spektor, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Dandy Warhols, Ani Difranco, Marilyn Manson (i just want to experience a live show),Juliana Hatfield, etc etc...
i've seen: Iggy Pop, The White Stripes(2), Bush/Veruca Salt, Hole, Nada Surf (5), Tori Amos, Betty Blowtorch, Weezer, Nofx (2), Tilt...
anways.... and then i watched Black Narcissus... Sister Ruth didn't get to be crazy for near long enough.
oh and Six Feet Under is driving me crazy!
lisa is dead
claire had an abortion after her boyfriend had sex with their art teacher
ruth got married
rico cheated on his wife
brenda's brother tried to make out w/ her.
bah!
i know it's a soap opera... but i'm totally addicted. this whole time i've wanted to like Claire i really have but she makes it hard when she's all rolling eyes and "the whole world owes me" attitude... but when she was in love and being loved and creating art she was becoming so interesting... i'm really curious where her character goes from here (i know i could just rent the dvd and everything but waiting week by week is more exciting) and who is that foxy guy that plays Brenda's neighbor? i know i've seen him somewhere but i cant place my finger on it yet... he's super hot and it makes it so you dont actually want brenda and nate to get togeather again cause you want her to get w/ her foxy sweet neighbor...even though i've been rooting for brenda all season cause frankly i didn't like lisa, i knew she wouldn't last but i really didn't think they'd kill her off. i cried so much that night. three episodes at a time is a lot to take in...
not much going on in my real life... hah. i'm a tv watching drone now didn't you know?
work sucks ass.
excited for tomorrow, hope my bears win!
gonna go buy a bunch of stuff now.
kinda sorta want to go out drinking or something tonight. haven't dont that in a while.

I've just picked up on Regina Spektor and I'm really liking her a lot.
6 Feet Under is the shit!!!
Claire's b/f has serious issues.. & Brenda's brother.... Oh it just keeps getting worse...
But I clearly don't watch things as interesting as the things you do.
You've added to my list of reasons to track down a copy of Frida.
I never saw it when it came out, even though I adore Salma Hayek.
But you're one of many who have highly recommended the film.
