I'm 22, single, and very happy in that position. The independence of it all is the best thing ever. I'm never tied down by my significant other's desires of what they want to do, and I never have to go through the emotional bullshit of a relationship.
I'm also very against relationships altogether. I don't know where it comes from, but I just firmly believe that two people do not have to profess their undying love for one another by being in a societal bond. Why can't people just be happy not being exclusive? This doesn't mean going out and screwing everyone, just not tying themselves into a pairing that forces jealousy and deceit. If people kept their relationships, friendships, then no one would get jealous. Taking the next step of being "exclusive" is what fucks everything up. And going one step beyond with marriage just ruins everything.
Maybe that's just me being cynical.
Yesterday, I was with this girl named Mary who is 33 and still very single. The whole entire time I was with her she went on and on about how pathetic she was because she isn't with anyone. And what would I do in her situation? And why is it that I'm never angry because I don't have a "man"? I didn't really answer her. I gave my generic answers and nodded. What I wanted to say was, "Shut the fuck up. You are pathetic, but not because you don't have a man, but because you acutally think you need one to be whole! The reason why I'm never upset is because I don't care. I'm who I am and I'm that way because of the decisions I made and will make. I will never need a man to dictate my life and guide me in my decisions!"
What I want to tell everyone is that you do not need someone in your life romantically to make you happy or complete.
Contrary to popular belief, I'm very happy being alone. This way, I don't have to answer to anyone, and jealousy doesn't rule my life. In the word of Mel Gibson: "FREEDOM!"

I'm feeling very self-conscious about my choice in girls. It's that whole "people are looking at you" thing. Too much pressure.
