Almost 2006! Scary. Leaving wintery New York City for Copacabana, Brazil--could be worse, right? Still, this will cap off a pretty brutal year, punctuated by hapless apartment-hunting, and trying to keep a relationship, housing, and work in a zen-like state and failing miserably every time.
Great indies in 2006: most notably, "Coffee and Cigarettes," by Jim Jarmush. If you haven't seen it, then... go see it. Loved the scene with Benigni (sp?) in the beginning, and also the one with Molina and that guy from 24 Hours Party people (especially that one, since 24 hour pp was also a favorite recent movie of mine).
I was in Kim's Video recently and they were playing Bauhaus (ok, no surprises there) but I thought how songs like terror couple kill colonel, kick in the eye, etc. just don't die. Still relevant, still fucking resonates in my head like it did 15-20 years ago. Murphy is brilliant! But why is it so so hard to find some of The Damned albums? (no connection, yes I know).
