I was trimming brush around a fallen tree in my yard when a found an apple. ??? I looked around to find an apple tree. Nope. Hmmm. An animal must've carried it here or something. <shrug>
Trim trim trim. Cut cut cut. Clear clear cl* ?wha? another apple. and another. A little deeper in the woods, a whole BUNCH of apples all over the ground! I looked around. Still didn't see a tree. Then I looked up. Way up. OMG
There it is. In my woods. The largest apple tree I've ever seen. 35 feet easy.
So, I've cut down the small trees around it to give it more light. And as soon as the apple tree's leaves fall, I'm gonna climb up there with a saw and prune. I've read that if I prune it well, the tree should reach full production in three years. Full production for a 35 foot tree is 440 lbs of apples!!!! So come October 2010, I'm gonna be up to my eyeballs in apples.
