We got approved!!!!
Looks like we're going to open shop in May.
Not much else to report, so I thought I would post our wedding vows (I wrote a good portion of them).
*names have been changed to protect the innocent*
There are two people before us who seek the bond of hand fasting, the sacred bond of marriage.
Know now that since your lives have crossed, you have formed ties between each other. The promises you make today and the ties that are bound here will cross the years and greatly strengthen your union. With full awareness, know that you declare your intent to be hand fasted in marriage before your friends and families.
(The Officiate asks the bride and groom):
Do you still seek to enter this ceremony?
(The bride and groom answer):
"Yes"
(The Officiate to the bride and groom):
Segment on the elements? Earth and fire?
Look into each other's eyes as your vows are made.
Brankauti, might you ever burden him? "I might" Is that your intent? "No"
DekeWS, might you ever burden her? "I might" Is that your intent? "No"
DekeWS and Brankauti, will you share the burdens of each so that your spirits may grow in this union? "Yes"
This cord is Earth. May your marriage be built on a solid foundation of friendship. Remember that love isn't about butterflies and fairytales, it's about remembering to take out the trash.
And so the binding is made. (Fourth cord yellow orange white is draped across the hands.)
Brankauti, will you honor him? "I will"
DekeWS, will you honor her? "I will"
DekeWS and Brankauti, will you seek never to give cause to break that honor? "Yes"
This cord is Wind. May your love be as unending. May your marriage be full of fair winds and following seas.
And so the binding is made. Join your hands. (The first cord white purple light blue is draped across the hands.)
Brankauti, might you ever cause him anger? "I might" Is that your intent? "No"
DekeWS, might you ever cause her anger? "I might" Is that your intent? "No"
DekeWS and Brankauti, will you together take the heat of anger and use it to temper the strength of this union? "Yes"
This cord is Fire. May this Fire bring Passion and Strife. Good battle is objective and honest--never vicious or cruel. Good battle is healthy and constructive, and brings to a marriage the principle of equal partnership.
And so the binding is made. (Sixth cord red and pink is draped across the hands.)
Brankauti, will you share his dreams? "I will"
DekeWS, will you share her dreams? "I will"
DekeWS and Brankauti, will you dream together to create new realities and hopes? "Yes"
This cord is Water. May you each be malleable. Remember that marriage is about compromise. This cord is also Ether. May you never let each other's dreams die. Keep hope alive in each other.
And so the binding is made. (Second cord silver white dark blue is draped across hands.)
Brankauti, might you ever cause him pain? "I might" Is that your intent? "No"
DekeWS, might you ever cause her pain? "I might" Is that your intent? "No"
DekeWS and Brankauti, will you both share each other's pain and seek to ease it? "Yes"
This cord is Death. May your marriage never be stale. Wear down the soles of your shoes, so that death will be the end of a beautiful journey together.
And so the binding is made. (Fifth cord black purple light blue draped across the hands.)
Brankauti, will you share his laughter? "I will"
DekeWS, will you share her laughter? "I will"
DekeWS and Brankauti, will both of you look for the brightness in life and the positive in each other? "Yes"
This cord is Life. May each of your lives be long, and together, let them be full of life.
And so the binding is made. (Third cord green brown orange draped across hands.)
Woven into these cords, imbued into its very fibers, are all the hopes of your friends and family, and of yourselves, for your new life together. With the fashioning of this knot do I tie all of the desires, dreams, love and happiness wished here in this place to your lives for as long as loves shall last.
The officiate ties the cords together and states:
In the joining of hands and in the fashioning of a knot, so are your lives now bound, one to another.
Notice that while you are now bound together, it is a loose knot, one that gives you room to move and grow. It does not constrict - it is flexible, and draws your hands together in love.
By this cord you are bound to your vow. May this knot remain tied for as long as love shall last.
"As the grass of the fields and the trees of the woods bend together under the pressures of the storm, so too must you bend when the wind blows strong. But know that as quickly as the storm comes, so equally may it leave. Yet will you both stand, strong in each other's strength. As you give love, so shall you receive love. As you give strength, so will you receive strength. Together you are one, apart you are nothing.
Know you that no two people can be exactly alike. No more can any two people fit together, perfect in every way. There will be times when it will seem hard to give and to love But see then your reflection as in a woodland pool: when the image you see looks sad and angered, then it is time for you to smile and love (for it is not fire that puts out fire.) In return will the image in the pool smile and love. So change your anger for love, and tears for joy. It is no weakness to admit a wrong; more, it is a sign of strength and learning. Ever love, help and respect each other, and then know truly that you are one."
The cords are then removed and placed on the altar. Rings are ready to be exchanged.
The bands that they are placing on each other's fingers are a symbol of their love and commitment. The band has no clear beginning or end, just lie their love. It continues on endlessly.
(Officiate to all)
In the eyes of the Gods and all of those present, and by the power vested in me by the state of Connecticut, I now pronounce you husband and wife. May the God and the Goddess bless your marriage and give it the strength to withstand the storms. So mote it be.
I am honored to present to you, Mr. & Mrs. DekeWS and Brankauti.
In the binding of yourselves have you created life anew. Step forth, therefore, into that new life, and rejoice in your love!"
