I wrote such a long rambling essay in the Motorcycle group boards about why you should name your bike that I thought I'd blog it. I hope everyone enjoys it.
So I originally wanted to name her because I considered not naming her to be like a boat superstition, bad luck and all. But mainly to me, I've discovered that a bike is a very personal thing. I'm not going as far as other people do and say it has a soul, but it's definitely something for me. It's like Wilson with Tom Hanks in Cast Away LOL. That damn ball went everywhere with him, and for me going on 100 mile rides every weekend through California back country, highways and twisties, is like a partner or friend along for the ride. Just the size difference from car to bike makes the relationship closer or more special for me. Motorcycles are also special because not everyone can ride so the fact that you can, on your bike of choice should mean something the way I see it.
And I feel that the average amount of care and time put into your bike produces more noticeable results to the rider than any changes on a car for the average driver. Every bump in the road is felt. Tire selection becomes more crucial to riding style and where you're going. Weight affects suspension setup and psi pressure. Then there's seat heat, louder horns, blinkers, rearsets, sportbikes, hybrids and cruisers.
I know this can all be said for cars too, but can anyone argue that the feeling is more visceral on your bike leading to a much closer bond with your machine! How could I not name my bike?
My baby's name is Katie smile She's a red 250r Ninja. The name came to me mostly by looks than behaviors now that I think about it. She cam look/act sharp, edgy and sexy while at times on the quiet, cute and humble side. The name Katie just popped in my head.
Ramble over, thanks for listening
