I think Semitic wins the prize. I'm fully convinced that we'll have chip implants in our lifetime. After our mobile phones and our iPods and PDA's etc, all merge into a Dick Tracy-esque wristwatch, the next step is to just hook straight into the CNS, and have a wireless connection to your bigger machine at home.
So, here's the story: I got punched in the head after a bike race. One punch, didn't see it coming, fractured my skull, tore the lining of my brain, and left a hole like a crushed ping-pong ball. They cut me open where the scar is, peeled me back, sewed up the lining, and then put back the biggest pieces of skull they had left. This photo was 2 or 3 days later when I took my bandages off, and was horrified to see a 1/2" raised up scar orbiting my ear.
I still don't speak the same 3 years later, and my head is sore to the touch in spots because of wacky nerve endings. They guy who hit me, a former friend and teammate, has a felony conviction. I've never seen him since, and he quit bike racing that very day.
So there you go.
