Here's my arts again, for those of you who missed it! Yay arts!
I present to you an adaptation of my favouritest story from Planescape. You've probably all heard it before, but if you haven't, it r0x0rs, trust me.
A vagabond, knowing nobody and having drifted from place to place for as long as memory served, comes across an aging crone. Before he has a chance to even open his mouth, she speaks
"At last, you have returned. You have one wish remaining"
He's certain that he's never seen this woman before in his life. There is no chance he would have forgotten somebody so uncharacteristically hideous. He responds:
"Old woman - I have not seen you before, and I know nothing of wishes. Begone!"
"One wish. It is all that remains. Could it be, young sir, that you have forgotten me?"
He wracks his brain - there is no sign of any old woman, or indeed anything at all, in his empty skull. He wanders because he could not, so far as he had tried, remember a single thing about himself, his family, his past. A smile begins to form in his mind as he becomes aware of the power he now has in his hands.
"Old woman - my wish is thus: I wish to remember everything".
She adjusts herself. The magic is done. His days of wandering, of loneliness, are over.
"Granted"
And he feels his memories burrowing their way back into his marrow. The slick glugging of tar. She bares her teeth at him - a smile.
"Fool. That was your first wish".
