I don't normally get into the centre of London if I can help it. But work had taken me to Kensington this afternoon and afterwards I decided to walk in towards the centre and get a tube/bus or continue walking all the way out East depending on how the mood took me.

Then I got a phone call from my Ma and discovered that I'd forgotten my sister-in-law's birthday. Damn. I bought a card and resolved to send it asap with a big apology for it being late.

I was nearing Tottenham Court Road, had just bought a few books and was intendind to head to the tube and zip home when I decided to call my brother thinking I could at least speak to my sis-in-l on the day. It turned out that his work had brought him to London for the day (he lives in East Anglia) and he and his wife and child were just about to sit down for dinner in Leicester Square. A 5 minute walk from where I was standing.

So instead of being the one brother-in-law who forgot her birthday I got to be the only one who turned up for her birthday dinner.

pedigree_chump:
that's so like me with the books! i would guess that i've only read about one third of the books i own (if that), and the number of times i've shelled out for books when i can't afford them on the basis that i *need* them is truly ridiculous, only to have them sitting on the shelf gathering dust while i try and focus on just one. (working in a library doesn't help, i should add).

and i love a good book cover--- seriously lust-inducing some of them, although i've noticed that American covers tend to look a bit duff compared to their British counterparts. oink

have a good weekend, deegee smile
