This African American with dreadlocks has seemed pretty coowhile I'm waiting for the bus, and he's usually just walking by, but today he wanted a cigarette and I was on the last one before I opened a new pack. I told him this was my last, because he asked me for an "ace" and we shared it.
He told me that his name is Shamguard. He has dreads, and a bmx bike, and a tattoo on his hand.
Amidst puffs of smoke, we spoke about the city, what makes a good building, how Bloomberg is tearing down old buildings, where I'm from, why I am going to school. Amidst puffs of smoke, he told me he was shot in both legs in 2005, but he's walking. He told me he helps coach kids at a Catholic school for basketball, on the sidelines.
He told me to remember that my name means that I can see through time, space, and physics. I've remembered.
It's funny, because it does mean that, for him at least. He seemed fairly kind, overall, but I could still have to knife him in a dark alley. Anyhow, that was a neat stop in my day.
I called the boys home that I worked at, also, which was really good to do. I missed those guys so much, and I was glad to hear that they are all there and okay. Hopefully, everything will work out for them in the best ways. Funny things- great stories, those kids tell. I miss them all.
Anyhow, I'm doing alright out here, in NY.
More soon,
BOYO
