Blue sky. You can see it overhead, everywhere, except for that sharp wooden angle you, while sweating profusely, clutching a metal stick about three inches long, with dumb fingers, attempt to pound into place.
You experience these sorts of moents all of the time: working on houses; putting up siding; painting; drilling; destroying walls. There's purity.
It's not so much the work that I do, but the moments within it that make me appreciate doing labor. It's not the completed object, but the tasks.
As a novice, rarely painted, built less, the first real time it happened was when I watched Phil hammer a board into the roof of a credit union. There is always so much that you notice on the ground, but you're encompassed by it all, and here Phil stands, part of his job, surpassing what I might consider a human limitation.
I forget how often that I'm sided in. I forget that most things are buildings; barriers. In a moment, though, everything becomes clear. Elucidated.
This is the way man is. We build houses in this way. You will learn to follow in this manner. You will continue to give. It's a noble profession.
For anyone who doesn't know her, I'm included in the bunch, you should check out Tremulant(SG member). She's impressive, I've got to say. She appears to be well-read, intelligent, and fun. I thought that there was a dearth of that here, but may be mistaken. No offence intended.
I'll write more later.
that boy,
Ian

ragesong:
Unfortunately, intellectually minded HUMANS are few and far between, women included. There are exceptions though, and there are even some right here in Lawrence if you look hard enough.
