I drove 3 hours out of LA to the Middle of Nowhere! And I mean like no gas or services for 40 miles in either direction NOWHERE.
Out on the 166 between Maricopa and Santa Maria in the Central Valley
But it was for a GREAT REASON!
I was picking Zin Grapes at a Vineyard!
I found a Horney Toad under one of the vines... Imagine that! Me Finding A Horney Toad!
And my good friend Sirima was the one who told me about it1 Remember her from Nicaragua?
She's the best!
When we finished picking the 10,000lbs of grapes....And I'm serious! that's how much we picked in ONE day! between about 30 0f us from 7:30 am til about 6pm with a few nice long breaks in between...we had a wine tasting and a BBQ and lots of UC Santa Cruz hippies busted out banjo's and guitars, one chic even had a fiddle, I pulled out the ukulele and we got drunk on previous vintages and sang songs I'd never heard in my life.
The I went to bed...
It was all so nice and i really enjoyed being away from it all for a while. i could hear Coyotes howling while I fell asleep and woke up to golden sun rays in my eyes and friends on the sleeping platform nearby.
We all had breakfast, cleaned up, chatted and then hit the road by 10am yesterday.
I took the long road, the 101, all the way, and stopped in Ventura for a cup of Clam Chowder on the peir and then came home to my Nugget, a Nap and a soak in the tub.

What a great time. I just drove thru there Friday going to work at Bakersfield airport from my new place in Ventura. It's kinda pretty out there too, which probably had to have been multiplied by millions once you were out there. Hee. Glad ya had fun
