Friday night a few friends and I went to the Alley Cat in Underground to see Artemis Pyledriver play. No sooner had I paid my cover and walked inside than I got a phonecall from my friend Catie, informing me that her boyfriend, my friend Brett, had been murdered.
Now, this wasn't entirely unexpected; he'd been missing since Sunday night, and police found his car on the side of the road in Colombus. We were all just hoping he was still alive. As it turns out, he got carjacked and shot, and the killers dumped hs body in a park in Dekalb County. He was dead before we even knew he was missing. The Cobb County (where he disappeared) Police didn't do a god damned thing all week; it took one day of the GBI being involved to find his body in the Dekalb County morgue.
So this is pretty much the most fucked up thing to ever happen to one of my friends, especially since it was so random. On the bright side, all of his friends have been real supportive of his family and each other. I guess it takes something like this to bring out the best in people. Also, the fuckers who killed him aren't very smart; not only did they leave all sorts of a trail, but they've been using his cellphone all week. Morons.
Alot of us got together yesterday at his best friends' house and had an early to mid twenty-somethings' version of a wake, ie, we all sat around and got drunk and stoned and talked about the whole thing. The only thing missing was Brett.
I'm fine, by the way; I mean, this fucking sucks, but I've mostly worked through it already. When I got the news I was conveniently already at a bar, so Luke and Steve and I got to nurture our nascent alcoholism.
Anyway, on a lighter note, that Artemis Pyledriver show was fucking awesome, and everyone should go see them next weekend at Atlantis. I think the're going to be at the Alley Cat again.

AP is good. An enjoyable show, saw them open for Mastodon & Jucifer a couple of years ago.
