so, after a long, hard day of polymer film-ing, i decided to contribute to the economy and be a consumer. seeing as how the last cd i bought was massive attack's blue lines in october, i got me some discs i've been meaning to get for a long time at the used cd place:
lamb(self titled)
machines of loving grace(contemplation)
unkle (psyence fiction)
skinny puppy (mind: the perpetual intercourse
my life with the thill kill kult (self titled)
prong (rude awakening)
the blood brothers(burn piano island, burn)
the best of claude debussy
i was kinda sad at their lack of my bloody valentine, lard, and acumen nation. usually the cd shops i went to in miami were fully stocked with such treasures. and these things were in the dollar pile. i once got a front 242 live album for a buck fifty at this place in pinecrest, fl. this is my rationale:
miami vs. boston
since miami is about 70% latin, so most people are incredibly hoochie-fied, as i believe people there are striving to be the best latin stereotype they can. me being cuban, however, i am an anomaly. i am as stereotypically cuban as the sun is really the moon on fire during daytime. savvy that.
so, these cd places, the most expensive discs are your justin timberlake, christina aguilera, shakira, etc. your standard cuban doesn't really like ministry, or dj goo, or the pixies.
now up here in boston, the population is more homogenously white(much to my shock at going into a target when i first moved here and everyone is speaking english. WTF? culture shock, population: me). i have sumised the stereotype up here is to be a lame ass hipster so the desired music up here is the least in miami, which is why i was dissapointed in their lack of selection.
sadly, the last time i went to miami, my favorite shops had closed. there is only uncle sam's in south beach, and that had also gotten extremely gentrified.
however, there is never a lack of brazillian drag queens. or papi chulos. ah, i miss miami, just for its quackery.
