let's talk music, shall we?
since Aug 20 - Aug 14 the 3rd Annual Liberty Music Fest was here in Philly at Finnigan's Wake instead of South St. like last year. i tell you i was still exhausted yesterday. i didn't even want to get out of bed. my legs and feet we're killing me! 5 days of live music!
Finnigan's is a historic building which over the years it has been so many different establishments, one in particular, a funeral home, hence the name. they still have caskets in the building. 2 wooden ones propped as decoration and a old green metal one that sits under the staircase in the basement. it has 4 floors, the basement the smallest, i believe that's where they did the enbalming. the 2nd floor is the bar and it has a stage. the 3rd, a large room which they call "the lounge". the 4th is a huge banquet hall. gold was the main color of the room and one side has just mirror. it reminded of the "gold room" in The Shining.
so what was i doing there? i've spoke before that i work with a promoting/interviewing company based in Philly. it is a podcast. we work with a booking agency that we've become friends with through being at another establishment for many years. these bands are independent and are not signed, we help to get them known. it is also internationally broadcasted and we even do interviews via Skype for those. i came on board actually at the last Liberty Fest because the owner knows my sister and has helped with a charity before and so in returning a favor, he needed help doing video work, recording live acts. since she works a lot and has long hours, i recently was unemployed and could be there to capture the video when she needed to go home. and from there i've been there ever since. i am dubbed "equipment tech/cameraman". when we interierview, i set up the microphones and run the cables into into the sound board, pretty much prepping everything for the sound engineer. i don't get paid but i get experience and to be in an enviroment that i love dearly. so if you get curious you can check us on iTunes, just search " Unclaimed Bands " or you can check our website out
Liberty is a bit more special because it is full of people in the music business. we were allowed to use one of the upstairs offices as base and do our interviews in. the 3 main guys rotated hosting the interviews or sometimes whoever was able because we had a tight schedule, back to back with interviews and you might of stepped out the room for whatever or to check out on what me and this other guy were doing. which was, we were in charge in videoing the live performances and this time we actually had set list from bands and to focus on those songs. so it wasn't like last year were we just recorded 3 songs, you had to pay attention a little bit. Thursday kicked off all 3 floors and i was in the Lounge where the acoustics were being held. a little boring but i have much respect for them! Friday and Saturday night had i the basement and it was a blast. some bands i wouldn't normally listen to but they rocked! Sunday, the last day, by then i was exhausted. running from floor to floor for batteries, memory cards, beer and bands. constantly on your feet. we had a audio malfunction Saturday with the sound engineer that we didn't know so we decided to scrap video to prevent any bad recording. we still had interviews to do but the rest of the crew were free to roam and enjoy the free 2 hour beer for those in the industry! it was a good chill time. by the end of the night it was just me and the owner still hanging out. they had a last minute fill in headliner and at one point they asked for people to come on stage with them, i was one of them! it was awesome to jam for their ending song and be on stage!
so what it as worth it? HELL YEA! can't wait to do it again.
here are some bands i thought we're good if you guys are curious, some are a bit different as i said to what i normally listen to but if it got my head movin, it's usually good. bands: Plantation, Evan Russell Safer, Blackstars, Cold Roses, East Of The West, Carfax Abbey, Zymotic Flow, Kid Felix, Old Man Savage, Vajra, Emily Danger, The Defused, The Strange Heat, Rowboat Casino, Steve Haley, Stealing Fame, The Riverside Odds, Mile Marker Zero, Revel 9, Tess Emma, Pravda, Midnight Mob. the ones i recommend favoring my style :Old Man Savage, Steal Fame, The Riverside Odds, The Defused
there was also hip hip on the 4th floor that i forgot to mention so it was quite diverse.
