Picture time.

So this is what the back of my house used to look like. On the left side of the picture is my kitchen; the extension on that side will house the laundry room slash mud room. On the right side is the dining room area; the extension on that side will have 3 doors opening out to the terrace. Above the dining room...

Update on the house project:

After the contractor took care of the floor and foundations last week (pictures will follow in a later blog), this week it was my turn. I took out the old kitchen over the weekend (for those of you that liked my kitchen: don't worry, I'm not going to change too much; most of it is coming back (just more built-in...

Sooo, my neighbour is being a bit of a dick. Well, he's trying anyway. He's a "contractor" himself (though he only does small carpentry jobs, which makes me wonder if he actually has a license as a contractor whatever ), and tried to halt work on the house because, as he claimed, the foundations the construction guys were setting up were not according to standards (and...

So the camera bag project took a bit longer than expected. It wasn't the actual work that took that long, though, as that only took me a day or two. The biggest delay was in figuring out how to do it and subsequent trips to the hardware store for materials or tools. Since I work full time (like most people), I'm pretty much bound to...

Wow, that turned out really great!! isnt it so much worth it knowing you made all that yourself? I didnt realize what you were making was going to be so big, but I see why you ended up making it, you got exactly what you wanted!

My little girl has been in heat the past couple of days, a bit earlier than I expected. She's only about 10 months now, I figured I still had some time to have her spayed. So I had put it off untill after I finish work on the house. She's actually been pretty cute during the whole thing. I mean, I still feel bad for...

Wow, that's some serious entertainment setups you got there!!

Don't go too much longer to get Tara spayed, not that it will hurt her any, but it will really start to drive you insane. One of the cats I had, I waited until she was 2, due to lack of time and money. Let me tell you it was only cute listening to her meow in heat for a really short time, the it got really really annoying. Ideally cats need to be spayed between 4-6 months old.
pikahyper:
ok you really shouldn't call tara your little girl that's just creepy surreal a stranger might find that intro very pedo until the spayed part ARRR!!!

If hope you're not bored with my sorbets yet, I made some more. Apple, pear and pineapple to be exact. I've spoilered them for those who've seen enough sorbets already after the strawberry and lemon ones. I also picked up some beautiful raspberries at the market, and instead of making yet another sorbet, I made some raspberry sauce to go with the ices (recipe also...

How about a little lettuce and pea soup......

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

Ingredients

2 teaspoon(s) margarine or butter
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 can(s) (14 1/2 ounces) chicken broth
1 package(s) (10 ounces) frozen peas
1 head(s) (about 10 ounces) Boston lettuce, coarsely chopped
3/4 teaspoon(s) salt
1/8 teaspoon(s) ground black pepper
1/8 teaspoon(s) dried thyme leaves
1/2 cup(s) half and half
1 tablespoon(s) fresh lemon juice
Chives, for garnish
________________________________________
Directions
1. In 4-quart saucepan, melt margarine or butter over medium heat. Add onion, and cook, stirring occasionally, 5 minutes or until tender. Stir in chicken broth, frozen peas, lettuce, salt, pepper, thyme, and 1 cup water; heat to boiling over high heat. Reduce heat to low; simmer 5 minutes. Stir in milk.
2. In blender at low speed, with center part of cover removed to allow steam to escape, blend pea mixture in small batches until smooth. Pour soup into large bowl after each batch. Return soup to same saucepan. Heat through. Stir in lemon juice, and remove from heat. Transfer soup to serving bowl; garnish with chives.

My birthday was yesterday, so I'm officially old (30) now. My brother and I had some pie with our parents and his in-laws, but that was about it for our birthday so far. Our party will be in a few weeks, when my brother is settled in in his new place.

I made some strawberry and lemon sorbet this weekend, and I'm making some apple...

I'm a little torn. The contractor called me up earlier this week, and apparently he made a mistake with the quote (which, as you may remember, was much higher than expected). He used another quote as a template, since the only real difference was in the dimensions, but he forgot to change the price. So I got a new quote, which is almost 20,000 lower...

If you can get a good deal, go with the contractor, because in the long run, he knows exactly what he is doing and can get it done quicker, the saving money to how much time you spend actually doing it yourself might be worth a little added expense and less headache.

I actually read a book this week. People than know me, know I'm not much of a reader, but I read this one in less than a day. It's called "My 'Dam life", and it's written by Sean Condon, an australian who lived in Amsterdam for 3 years, and it's about his life there. A lot of the situations he's gotten himself into are very...
