I'm a little torn. The contractor called me up earlier this week, and apparently he made a mistake with the quote (which, as you may remember, was much higher than expected). He used another quote as a template, since the only real difference was in the dimensions, but he forgot to change the price. So I got a new quote, which is almost 20,000 lower than the first one. It's still slightly above my available budget, but there might be a little room to negotiate. I also might get some money from my parents, from the inheritance they got last year when my uncle and grandmother passed. When I got the first quote, which was well beyond my budget, I decided that I would do most of the work myself, with an electrician friend, saving a lot of money. But now that it looks like I might be able to afford to have everything done, I'm not sure. It would still be cheaper to do it myself, allowing me to tackle the bathroom, too, but it would also eat up most of my vacation time this year. So yeah, I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do.
My birthday is next week. I don't really have any plans, though, aside from some family coming over. I'm not even sure when me and my brother are celebrating it, as he just got a new place and he kind of wants to do it there instead of at my place (where we usually celebrate). But he might not have finished moving by next week. He lives crazy close to both me and my parents now. I'll try and do a map thingy this weekend if I can be bothered (we all now how lazy I am, though).
Speaking of my brother and his new place, we're going to IKEA this weekend to get some furniture. Normally I love going to IKEA, but a) my brother HATES furniture shopping with a passion, and b) his mother in-law is coming with us,and she's a major know-it-all pain-in-the-ass, as demonstrated by the last time she went to IKEA with us. So wish me luck . If I don't report back, I either killed myself, or killed her .
There's also some other stuff on my mind. But I'll save that for another blog.

If you can get a good deal, go with the contractor, because in the long run, he knows exactly what he is doing and can get it done quicker, the saving money to how much time you spend actually doing it yourself might be worth a little added expense and less headache.
