My doorbell has been acting kinda wonky, so I bought a new wireless one. It plays the tune from Close Encounters of the Third Kind, I'm such a geek.
Merry Christmas everyone!
It's a family tradition to have brunch on Christmas day at my house, and open our presents. I always bake croissants, chocolate rolls and various kinds of bread rolls, and serve them with christmas stollen. I also make fresh orange juice and apple juice every year. So even though we usually don't eat untill 10:00-10:30ish, I'm usually up at 7 to get everything ready. I don't mind, though, as I hardly ever sleep in. And I like hosting.
I'll post some pictures tomorrow, I have to find my cable first.
This year, I got some games for the PS2 (including the puzzle game I've been dying to try out), handkerchiefs, a thingy to hold my tie in place and a trivia boardgame. I was pretty happy . My brother was very pleased with his Metallica box set by the way, and it was a big surprise as I had convinced him that it was too expensive. He had no idea I bought it months ago already. My mom got a game, my dad a DVD and a photobook of Amsterdam (where he was born) spanning 1947-1970 (he was born in 1947), my sister-in-law some books and movies. We're a pretty simple family.
We celebrate 2 days of Christmas in the Netherlands, not including Christmas eve. Usually I cook one day (most often the 25th), and we have dinner at my place, and the other day we have fondue, often at my parents' house. This year is different, though, as we were invited to my brother's in-laws' tonight. I'll be cooking tomorrow instead. I'll try and have everything up the 27th or 28th.
This is probably the last Christmas dinner in my old kitchen, as the kitchen is part of my plans to remodel the house. It's not *that* much different from my current kitchen, but it'll include a few improvements to make big dinners a little easier. One big improvement will be the addition of another (smaller) oven, which will make it a little easier to make different dishes. Even though I have a huge oven, I can still make only one dish at a time since they require different temperatures. It'll also feature a larger dishwasher. Yes, I'm very spoiled . I grew up with a dishwasher, and it was one of the first appliances I bought when I bought my own house.
I'm trying to schedule an appointment while I'm off from work next week, to get a quote from a contractor. I don't have a scanner so I can't upload the sketches I've made, but if the contractor sends me the plans per email, I'll see if I can upload them to give you guys an idea of what I want to do.
I'll blog more tomorrow, when I have pictures to post.
