I've been slack at this...
But here we go...
Hey haters! Yeah you... Before you start labeling someone a whinger, take a look at yourself, pretty sure you've whinged about the weather, or your job, or how hungover you are! Enough with double-standards, and dogging a mate when he/she is already down about something... Don't like what I have to say? Delete me/walk away, your friendship obviously isn't valuable, if all you want to do is take the piss instead of asking what's wrong. What the fuck happened to compassion for your fellow man?
It's happened to me, I can admit that. I've blurted something out on facebook, complaining about something. I was told to harden up, dry my eyes, or check my date of birth and use a calculator to work out how old I am. Nice friends huh? So you could imagine how alone I felt 2 years ago, when I was plagued with depression. People would say months later during hospital visits (I'm sure you can connect the dots as to why I was in hospital), "why didn't you come talk to me?" Here's the background, I worked in a predominantly male orientated workplace. We laughed, we joked, we'd take the piss out of someone for any reason we could find. That's why I found it hard to speak out, the embarrassment and shame of being a weaker man was my constant fear.
People would take one look at me, a six foot, solid looking half-filo (the appearance of a Pacific Islander), and think I was fearless. Some guy bumped into me at a concert and was scared I was gonna hit him back. I might look scary, but inside I'm quite relaxed, but my mind screams at a million miles an hour. And no one had any idea of the thoughts racing in my mind.
So for fucks sake, you can never know someone's mental state of mind when they say something/post something/tweet something. That one statement, could just be the loudest they can yell out for help. And something stupidly said (heaven forbid) could be the poke that pushes them off the edge. You're not being funny, and I'm not calling myself a saint, I've often misused my sense of humor. But this issue isn't just black and white, there is a grey area. Use your wit and humor to cheer him/her up! It might just make the difference to someone...
