Greetings faithful followers, loyal friends, and random stumble uponers.
Ugh, New Year Resolutions. I don't really like that terminology. If you go to thesaurus.com and search "resolution," goal is not a synonym of resolution.
Of the several definitions for resolution, these two are most appropriate for the context of a New Year resolution:
- -- the act of resolving or determining upon an action, course of action, method, procedure, etc.
- -- a resolve; a decision or determination: to make a firm resolution to do something.
Neither of those definitions specify a goal... just the decision to do something. We always make New Year resolutions, only to break them, give up on them, shortly after we ring in the new year.
I prefer to create goals for the year. So here are my goals for 2019...
1. Eat healthier (less fast food) and exercise more. Goal weight is 180 pounds (I haven't weighed myself recently, but I'm probably around 225 pounds). This goal is achievable... I just need to put my mind to it.
2. Graduate the Certified Professional Boudoir Photographer program I'm enrolled in no later than 31 March 2019. I realize the certification holds little weight in terms of being a photographer, but I think it's important for my clients to know that I've had some training to help them feel more comfortable and less skeptical about booking a session with me. This is an achievable goal, though it will take some work to get an average of $1,000 per sale and $5,000 in total sales by 31 March 2019.
3. Earn at least $50,000 from my boudoir photography business alone. Even considering I'm starting this business part time, I can still book up to 5 sessions per week just on weekends, this goal is achievable.
4. Register my business as an LLC (Phantasy Photos LLC) with the state of Nevada and Clark County as well as get my sales tax permits for Nevada and Clark County. Going to do this after the new year. Our house is not inside either the Las Vegas or Henderson city limits and their respective business licensing jurisdictions, so I don't have to get business licenses for either city.
5. Shoot more sets for Suicide Girls. Any takers?
6. Significantly pay down the new debt we've incurred from the move into our new house, the remodeling, and furnishing. We've already started this so this goal won't be too difficult to achieve.
7. Enroll in the bi-monthly mortgage payment plan. By doing this, we can pay off our mortgage in about 23 years instead of 30 years if we make just the normal monthly mortgage payment, because we end up making one extra payment per year, and all of that extra payment goes toward the principal, not interest, property taxes, or insurance.
8. Work from home... not only for my boudoir photography business, but also for my day job. Several people in my office work primarily from home. I don't understand why I can't. So, when I go back to work on 02 January 2019 (I'm on vacation until then), I'm going to ask.
9. Get a new MacBook laptop for my boudoir photography business so I can do photo editing and business tasks when I'm away from my home office.
What are your 2019 goals?
Stay Tuned...
