Saturday night. The last show of Queen’s residency at Park MGM (formerly the Monte Carlo). Top row. Nosebleed seats. Frankly, I was surprised we were able to get 6 tickets just a week or so before the last show.
No, it wasn’t the same without Freddie (though I never did get to see Queen with Freddie, but I saw video, notably Live Aid).
But Adam Lambert was awesome. Brian May and Roger Taylor are still on top of their game. Sadly, no John Deacon.
At times, Adam sounded like Freddie, other times himself. Either way, he did a fantastic job as Queen’s frontman. Flamboyant, over the top costumes, just like Freddie.
My only disappointment... they didn’t play You’re My Best Friend. But they played all of the other hits, as well as a cover of Elvis Presley’s Heartbreak Hotel. Also played Love of My Life with Brian May on vocals... it was beautiful. And Roger Taylor’s I’m in Love with My Car, a song I had forgotten about. Brian May’s guitar solo is the one he did on Live Killers in the middle of Now I’m Here, though they did not play the song.
Killer Queen, We Will Rock You (twice), We Are the Champions, Radio Gaga, Under Pressure (with Roger Taylor singing David Bowie’s part), Fat Bottomed Girls, Bicycle Race, Don’t Stop Me Now, Somebody to Love, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Another One Bites the Dust, Love of My Life, I’m in Love with My Car, The Show Must Go On, and, of course, Bohemian Rhapsody, just like they did on Live Killers.
They might have played some or all of these (can’t remember)... Who Wants to Live Forever, I Want It All, Let Me Entertain You, Tie Your Mother Down.
Only took one photo, simply because the lasers were so cool, especially sitting up so high and being close to them. It was surreal. But, yeah, only one photo. No video either. I wanted to experience the show through my eyes, not a camera.
They played for about 2 1/2 hours. It was an awesome show.
Stay Tuned...
